“Dependent on Sri Lanka”- Fans react to Australia narrowly beating Afghanistan in hope of qualification to the semi finals of the World Cup

Adelaide Oval, south of Australia hosted one of the most important matches for the country as they competed against Afghanistan to boost up their chances in order to qualify for the semi-final from group 1. Afghanistan captain Mohammed Nabi won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Afghans are out of this year’s tournament and were hoping to sign off in style.

A major change in the lineup of Australia was noticeable as captain Aaron Finch was dropped due to injury concerns with star pacer Mitchell Starch also in the dugout. David Warner hasn’t had the best of the tournament but looked in good touch for his 25 of 18 while Cameron Green was not able to impress after being given a chance.

Mitchell Marsh continues to impress with his promotion to the top order as he smashed 45 of 30, and Steve Smith who played in for Tim David disappointed with his 4 of 4. Marcus Stoinis contributed a valuable 25 off 21 while Glenn Maxwell ended the innings in style with his 54 of 32 deliveries.

Afghani bowlers bowled well in the end as Naveen Ul Haq took 3 wickets giving away just 21 in his 4 overs. Fazalhaq Farooqi bagged 2 for himself. Rahmanullah Gurbaz looked dangerous as he smashed 30 off 17 while the other opener Usman Ghani went cheap scoring just 2 runs. Ibrahim Zadran and Gulbadin Naib managed to contribute a 50+ run partnership.

Glenn Maxwell produced the magic, running out Naib with his bullet arm as he threw the ball onto the wickets from more than 40 yards out. The Afghanistan team started falling apart as a late show in the form of Rashid Khan who came to trouble the Australians. The hard-hitting batsman took the game to the end as he fell short of the target with just 4 runs remaining on the board.
