Steve Smith and Travis Head looked least bothered with the Indian bowling attack as the Australian batting pair put on a massive 251-run partnership for the fourth wicket on Day 1 of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final. As India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited Australia to bat first, the opening pair of David Warner and Usman Khawaja played cautiously. Khawaja even perished to Mohammed Siraj in the fourth over of the Australia innings.
However, Warner and Marnus Labuschagne put on a 69-run partnership for the second wicket but it ended with the opening batter getting caught behind against Shardul Thakur. Labuschagne was then cleaned up by Mohammed Shami right after the lunch break. With Labuschagne departing, out came Travis Head and it was shambles for India since then.
The left-handed batter played a perfect counterattacking knock and got to his maiden away century in style. Head scored 100 runs off just 106 balls and totally took the momentum away from India. Meanwhile, Steve Smith perfectly played second fiddle. The two Australian batters scored boundaries with ease and looked untroubled even after the second new ball was taken.
