How can team India qualify for 2023 WTC final?

The race to the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final is heating up as the teams are left with limited games to book a spot for themselves. The much-anticipated game will be played at the Oval Stadium in London next year. Interestingly, the cycle will see new champions emerge as New Zealand are already out of the equation.

With Pakistan’s series loss against England on home soil, Babar Azam’s side were also left out of the equation to play the final. The Men in Green lost their first two Test matches of the three-match series. The third and final Test match will be played at the National Stadium, Karachi from 17th December.

This means that the race for the two spots has four sides to grab. The four sides are Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and India. Notably, the Baggy Greens are the front runners for the spot as they currently sit at the top of the WTC points table. They need at least three wins out of their 7 games.

South Africa, on the other hand, who are sitting at the second position with 72 points require at least three wins in their remaining five games. They will play a three-match away series against Australia and two Tests against West Indies at home. Next on the list are Sri Lanka, who are in a tricky situation.

The Lankans need to win their two-match Test series against New Zealand. That wouldn’t even be enough as they would require other results to go their way to have a chance. Lastly, the runners-up of the last edition, team India will have to battle hard to have a go at the cup again this time.

The Men in Blue are currently ranked No.4 in the points table and have a two-match and four-match Test series against Bangladesh and Australia respectively. Unfortunately, they need to win at least five out of their remaining six games to have a chance of making it into the final.
