Irfan Pathan, Riyan Parag
After Rajasthan Royals‘ (RR) victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS), and another failure of Riyan Parag, fans did not miss the chance to mercilessly troll the youngster. Amidts brutal criticism, former India pacer Irfan Pathan took to Twitter to entreat the fans to stop slamming a youngster. Though Pathan did not use any cricketer’s name, fans guessed he was talking about Parag.
Parag has featured in just seven matches for the Pink Jersey. Early in the tournament, he flopped with the bat owing to which he was dropped from the side after a couple of games. In the seven matches he has played, all he could muster were 78 runs at a mere average of 13 and a strike rate of 118. Not once he could cross the 20-run mark.
Against PBKS, the 21-year-old scored just 20 runs from 12 balls with a four and two sixes at a strike rate of 166.67, before he was sent to the dugout by Kagiso Rabada in the 18th over. Right after his dismissal, fans took to the micro-blogging platform to tear apart the youngster.
But Irfan Pathan urged them to stop giving hate to a youngster who is confident in his ability. “Don’t give unnecessary hate to a young player just cos he is confident in his ability,” Irfan Pathan wrote on Twitter.

Talking about the match, PBKS were asked to bat first, and from Sam Curran’s 49*, Jitesh Sharma’s 44, and Shahrukh Khan’s 41*, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side totaled 187/5 in 20 overs. RR slowly chased it down, with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 50, Devdutt Padikkal’s 51, and Shimron Hetmyer’s 46 in 19.4 overs to win the match by four wickets.
It was PBKS’s last league match but the Sanju Samson-led side is still in contention to qualify for the playoffs. They have no control over their qualification chance as it will depend on the match results of the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Mumbai Indians. Last year’s runners-up will be hoping to see both RCB and MI getting thrashed by Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively.
