Though the senior faces of the Indian team were not seen in the squad for the Ireland T20I series, the series invited attractions mainly for two reasons- Jasprit Bumrah and the youngsters’ performance under him. Bumrah last played an international cricket match back in September 2022 and made his comeback in the first T20I against Ireland on Friday (August 18) at the The Village stadium.

Knowing Bumrah and how he breaks the opponents’ back in the powerplay, the tearaway paceman did not take much time to make his sensational comeback. In the very first over, he sent the openers into packing.

On the second ball of the first over, Bumrah aimed for Andy Balbirnie’s stumps and did not fail. Balbirnie could score just four runs from two balls.

The 29-year-old then dismissed Lorcan Tucker on the penultimate delivery of the first over. Tucker tried to play a ramp shot but Sanju Samson, the wicketkeeper, moved toward his left and did no mistake. Bumrah bagged two wickets in his four overs and conceded 24 runs at an economy of 6.

Jasprit Bumrah’s two scalps helped India restrict Ireland to 139/7

Though Jasprit Bumrah got rid of the two batters, Prasidh Krishna and Ravi Bishnoi also took the same number of wickets, while Arshdeep Singh got one. At one point, even before reaching the three-digit mark, Ireland had lost six wickets.

But thanks to Curtis Campher and Barry McCarthy’s innings which took the hosts to 139/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Campher played a 33-ball 39-run slow knock, while McCarthy, with four boundaries and four sixes, scored an unbeaten 51 runs from 33 balls. At the time of writing this article, India started their run chase but the match has been delayed due to rain.
