“Fixing happened because of…”- Javed Miandad makes a shocking remark after Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2022 defeat
Javed Miandad drops a shocking remark after Pakistan's T20 World Cup defeat
Former Pakistani skipper Javed Miandad explained why some Pakistani players resort to fixing. He explained this following the Men in Green’s five-wicket defeat to England in the final of the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday [November 13] at the MCG in Melbourne.
After the defeat, the Pakistan team is facing criticism for its lackluster performance, especially with the bat. Miandad wonders what will be the future of the current players as Pakistan have relied more on foreign coaches. In the present scene, Matthew Hayden is the team’s mentor, while Shaun Tait is the bowling coach.
“We have played County, but those who are playing right now, what’s their future?” said Miandad on Cricket Pakistan. “Bring them to the studio, we will ask them questions. We also want to know what they know about cricket,” he added. He then slammed Pakistan Cricket Board for saving itself after a poor show by hiring foreign coaches. “Board tried to save itself with such hiring,” the former head coach said further.

Javed Miandad explained why some Pakistani players turn to fixing
Javed Miandad then explained why some players resort to fixing. According to him, as PCB hires foreign coaches, the players will be left with no options in their future if they don’t perform. And as everyone is scared that their career will be over, they get involved in the notorious act.
“Look at our crickets who have played cricket in the past. I’m not talking about myself, I’ve received a lot of offers in the past but I don’t go. What will happen to the players who are there right now? They know they don’t have anywhere to go if they don’t perform. Fixing happened because of this very reason. Everyone was scared that their career will be over,” said the Pakistan great.
Talking about the final match, Pakistan batted first. With Babar Azam 32 and Shan Masood 38, Pakistan posted 137/8 in 20 overs. Sam Curran was the hero with the ball with three scalps for England.
Despite England’s sluggish start, skipper Jos Buttler attacked from one end. After his dismissal, Ben Stokes, who rather played slowly at first, accelerated in the last overs to help his side secure the cup for the second time. In that match, Stokes also smashed his first T20I half-century.
