With the 2024 T20I World Cup six months away, there are still many questions regarding the Indian team. Will Rohit Sharma return as captain or will Hardik Pandya continue? Will Virat Kohli return or will they turn to their younger players? With all these important questions looming over the heads of fans, Jay Shah says currently there is no need of clarity. 

The BCCI secretary claims there is quite some time left for the 2024 World Cup and they should wait. He noted that India still need to play the T20I series against Afghanistan and then the IPL. He further added that Pandya could return for the Afghanistan series as well.

What is the need to have clarity right now? It (T20 World Cup) is starting in June. We have the IPL before that and also the series against Afghanistan.

Shah said Hardik Pandya could return for the T20I series against Afghanistan. He said the all-rounder is currently undergoing recovery in the NCA, and is being monitored day to day and the BCCI will let everyone know when he’s back to full fitness. 

Gautam Gambhir backs Rohit Sharma for 2024 T20 World Cup

With everyone still unsure on who will captain India in the 2024 T20I World Cup, Gautam Gambhir believes Rohit Sharma should return. He said with the food form Rohit is in, he should be selected and stay as captain.

If Rohit Sharma is in good form, he should be leading in the T20 World Cup or if he is not in good form, whoever is not in good form should not be picked for the T20 World Cup.
Gambhir said during interview with ANI

Gambhir believes captaincy is a responsibility and only selected players can be made captain. He further added that a captain should have a permanent position in the playing eleven, and the permanent place depends on the form.

The 2011 World Cup-winner further said that Rohit’s should not be a factor in his selection. Gambhir believed his retirement was his own personal decision and it should not affect his selection if he is in form.
