Jay Shah is one of the biggest names in Indian cricket, with the 35-year old working as the Secretary of the BCCI and President of the Asian Cricket Council. Elected to his role in 2019 after his work with the Gujarat Cricket State Association, he has played a major role in Indian and International cricket for the past five years. 

Now it looks like the administrator will be leaving his posts as BCCI Secretary and ACC President so that he can contest in the ICC President elections which will occur this year in November. He currently chairs the ICC Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee, a role he has held since 2022. 

The only way Shah can be elected as ICC Chairman is if he gives up his posts in the BCCI and ACC, so that he can avoid any conflicts of Interest. As of now, the ICC Chairman is Greg Barclay, who has held the role since November 2020. He is currently serving his 2nd term, being reelected in 2022.

Fans give mixed reactions to Jay Shah’s ambitions

When many fans saw the news of Jay Shah planning to become the ICC Chairman, there were a variety of reactions. Some were confused why Shah would give up his role in the BCCI, believing it had much more power. Some expressed how India will now have complete control over International cricket. One fan was interested to see the reactions of rival fans. Many fans joked about how fun the scripts of the upcoming ICC tournaments would be.

The ICC Elections will be in November 2022. So far only Shah has been rumored to be a contestant in it. In the upcoming ACC Annual General Meeting, his decision to become the new ICC Chairman will be discussed. Along with that, the host nation for the next Asia Cup will be decided, which will be held in the T20 format.
