Jemimah Rodrigues wasn’t included in India’s ODI World Cup squad in New Zealand after a string of low scores. She revealed how the snub mentally affected her in a recent talk show. According to reports, she even tried her hands at hockey and took a break from cricket.

There were days, especially in this last year when I was dropped from the team I don’t think I would have been able to make it without them (family),” said Jemimah in an interaction with former India coach WV Raman on his talk show Wednesday with WV.

She said she was trying to be happy to show everything was good on the outside, but she was hurting on the inside. She then said how she couldn’t sleep well for weeks and was having nightmares that woke her up in the middle of the night.

Rodrigues‘ healing started when she opened it to her parents. The result was that the three of them started crying, Jemimah believes that is where the healing began.

One day I remember my mom and dad we sat down at home all three of us were trying to be happy for each other just so that we could be strong for each other. Then I broke down and I told my dad that I think I need to take a break from cricket for few days,” Jemimah said.

My dad started crying, my dad never cries. He’s like for me to go through something is fine but when I see my own daughter going through something, it’s 10,000 times worse. And then my mom broke down completely. She is like it’s so hard for me to be strong for the two people I love the most. And we all started crying ad I think that was the moment when the healing started. I took a break then and just spent time with the family,” she added.

After India’s lackluster performance at the World Cup, Jemimah Rodrigues was again included in the squad for the white-ball series against Sri Lanka. She was also part of the team at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham where India clinched the silver after clashing against Australia in the final.

In the Women’s Asia Cup, she was the leading run-scorer. She amassed 217 runs from eight matches. Now, she is a part of the tri-series in South Africa. After that, she will play in the Women’s T20 World Cup which is slated to start in February next year in South Africa.
