Kuldeep Yadav recently appeared for an interview with the Indian Express. During that interview, he admitted that the rough patch he faced in his career was due to MS Dhoni‘s retirement from cricket.
Dhoni retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, but not before leading the team to three ICC trophies. The 42-year-old used to back the youngsters, guide them to do better, and used to instill confidence in them. From behind the stumps, his advice to bowlers was valuable as often it resulted in wickets.
Kuldeep Yadav was one such bowler who followed Dhoni’s advice while bowling. But after Captain Cool’s retirement, it became tough for the chinaman to become self-reliant and do things on his own like changing field position or where to bowl to the batter. Yadav suffered a rough patch before making his comeback in 2022.
I wanted Dhoni bhai to play more because it was very easy when we were bowling - after Dhoni retired, my performance wasn't great. It happens when a person guides you & that person's influence is not there - then suddenly everything is on your shoulders - it takes time, that probably happened to me then slowly you understand & become self-reliant.Kuldeep Yadav told the Indian Express
Kuldeep Yadav opened up about Rohit Sharma’s captaincy
Kuldeep Yadav played four Tests in the recently-concluded five-match Test series against England which India won, taking 19 wickets. During the series, captain Rohit Sharma hurled abusive words at players which were caught on stump mic.
During the same interview with the Indian Express, Kuldeep Yadav revealed that the players don’t mind much whatever abusive language Sharma uses during the matches, saying “it’s his love for us.” Yadav praised Sharma for trusting and backing the players.
Yadav added that Sharma currently focuses more on the chinaman’s batting than his bowling. He called himself lucky to play under the 36-year-old.
