In the third and decider ODI, South Africa’s batters couldn’t even manage to reach a three-digit score. Indian bowlers broke the Proteas’ back and they got all out on a mere 99 runs in 27.1 overs. Indian batters will do the remaining job of clinching the series on Wednesday, October 12 at the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi.
India skipper Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and opted to field first. Washington Sundar gave the first breakthrough by dismissing Quinton de Kock on six runs. Mohammad Siraj then sent the other opener Janneman Malan on 15 runs. Siraj grabbed Reeza Hendricks also when the batter scored just three runs from 21 balls.
The dangerous Aiden Markram scored nine runs off 19 balls but became a victim of the newcomer Shahbaz Ahmed. David Miller faced a similar fate when Sundar bowled him out on seven runs.
Only Heinrich Klaasen could contribute some runs to the team. He played a 42-ball 34-run knock with four boundaries before Ahmed trapped him too. This happened in the 24.3 overs, Ahmed struck to bowl the shorter one but this was a bit quicker. Klaasen stayed in his crease and looked to cut it away but missed it. The ball ended up shattering the stumps. After Klaasen’s wicket, South Africa was reeling at 93/7; he was the last recognized batter. Soon, Indian bowlers did the rest of the job down the line.
Kuldeep grabbed four wickets, while Sundar, Siraj, and Ahmed picked up two wickets each. They restricted South African batters to just 99 runs in 27.1 overs.
