Shaheen Afridi
Pakistan suffered a massive blow as their star bowler Shaheen Afridi has sustained injury that ruled him out of the blockbuster Aisa Cup 2022 where Pakistan will start their campaign by clashing against their arch-rivals India in Dubai. Afridi has been advised four-six weeks of rest which also means, he is likely to miss the England T20I series as well.
While fielding during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, he got injured in the right knee ligament. He will now remain with Pakistan squad as he completes his rehabilitation.
“I have spoken with Shaheen and he is understandably upset with the news, but he is brave young man who has vowed to come back strongly to serve his countru and team. Although he has made progress during his rehabilitation in Rotterdam, it is now clear he will require more time and is likely to return to competitve cricket in October,” said Pakistan Cricket Board‘s Medical Officer Dr Najeebullah Soomro.
“PCB’s Sports & Excercise Medicine Department will be working closely with the player over the coming weeks to ensure his safe return to competitve cricket.”
PCB is yet to announce his replacement for the Asia Cup. Afridi will also miss two Pakistan’s two big series but he is expected to return back to the team ahead of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup which will start in October in Australia.
