Michael Clarke slams South Australia's idea to snatch New Year's Test from Sydney
South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas and The South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) have ideated to snatch the New Year’s Test from Sydney. They pondered over negative discourse from fans and some cricket analysts and came to the conclusion of snatching the New Year’s Test from the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and hosting it in Adelaide.
The reason behind this is mainly the bad weather which hindered the progress of several matches to the annoyance of many. “We are happy to support any proposition that stacks up and derives a better outcome for the state’s economy,” Malinauskas told ABC Radio Adelaide.

The frustrations reached heights during the series against South Africa this year. The first two days at the SCG were halted for a while but incessant rain washed out the third day. According to ABC meteorologist Thomas Saunders, rain has affected Test cricket 64 per of the time in the last eight years at the SCG.
Michael Clarke is furious with this idea
But the former Australian captain Michael Clarke is furious with this idea. The proud New South Welshman feels snatching New Year’s Test from Sydney is a “no-brainer“.

“Not happening,” Clarke declared on Big Sports Breakfast. “Can’t take Boxing Day from the MCG and you can’t take New Year’s away from the SCG, (an) absolute no-brainer. The day that stops is the day Test cricket is finished in this country.”
Adelaide Oval has been chosen to host the matches owing to the strong turnouts, no matter the opponent. Over 86,000 fans came to watch the Test against West Indies as compared to 42,723 in Perth Test. “Their (Adelaide) Test match is perfect when they’ve got it, under lights, it’s perfect, it’s working so well. Why would they want to change that?” Clarke added.
The 41-year-old has amassed 8643 runs from 198 Test innings, with a highest of an unbeaten 329-run knock. In 245 ODI matches, he scored 7981 runs and even led Australia to win the 2015 ODI World Cup. He played just 34 T20I and scored 488 runs.
