Mohammed Shami and his family were accused of adultery, domestic violence and match-fixing by his ex-wife, Hasin Jahan in 2018. Since then the two have been separated and divorced, with Shami having a stayed arrest warrant on his name.

After Shami’s stellar performances in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, where he has picked up 16 wickets in just 4 matches, Hasin was interviewed by News Nation. In the clip, when asked about her ex-husband’s performance, she said he had no idea about the sport as she doesn’t watch it, but then made a bizarre statement.

Accha perform kar rha hai, accha khelega, team main bana rahega, achha kamayega toh humara bhavishya secure rahega (However it is, as long as he’s playing well and is a part of the team, he will get paid and our future will be secure)
Hasin Jahan to News Nation

She said she hoped her ex-husband kept on playing well to secure the future of her and her daughter with Shami, Aira. Many people on the internet called her a gold digger for only caring about money.

Hasin Jahan refuses to give ex-husband Mohammed Shami her best wishes

After saying she’s happy with the way Mohammed Shami was performing, the interviewer asked Hasin Jahan if she could at least give her ex-husband and the Indian team her best wishes. She said she was ready to give her best wishes to everyone in the Indian team, but not Shami.

After being accused of abuse, adultery and match fixing by his ex-wife, Shami was not given a contract by the BCCI. He denied all allegations and was investigated by the Anti-Corruption Unit, but was cleared.

In 2019, an arrest warrant was issued in his name by the Alipore Courts while he was playing in the West Indies, but the warrant was stayed by the District Court. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the right-arm-pacer revealed he wanted to end his life due to the case and other factors, but thanks to his parents and friends he recovered from depression. He is still embroiled in case, as he recently got bail before the start of the Asia Cup.
