MS Dhoni continues to romance CSK and Chennai
No matter what, Dhoni makes people laugh, and cry, and gives them a high. They do not need LSD, they need MSD.
MS Dhoni
You can call it Love Story. One man has romanced Chennai like never before. No, one is not talking of cine legends like Sivaji Ganesan or MG Ramachandran, stars for whom fans would wage wars in an era when there were no social media. There were just print media in the 70s and 80s and there was poster war on walls. If Shivaji fans did not like MGR, they would smear charcoal on the poster or throw cow dung on it! It happened vice versa as well.
Ah, that was a different generation. When people loved movies, music, and the beach in Madras. It’s now Chennai, where so much has changed in every year which has passed by. Yet, what has not changed is the passion for food, love, and sports. This is a city that has been mourning for almost four years as they did not get to see live the Indian Premier League.
Finally, on Monday, Chennai’s crazy cricket lovers got to see the Chennai Super Kings play in the IPL. This was not their first match, yet the excitement had been building up for days and weeks. By this time, Chennai should be boiling, in April. No, this summer is still not that hot or muggy. Oh, who cares, as long as they can get to see Thala — MS Dhoni. A title that had been preserved for another iconic Tamil film star, Rajinikanth, has been taken by Dhoni.
MS Dhoni faced three balls and hammered two sixes, both in different styles
Nobody minds it, really. Ranchi may be Dhoni’s birthplace and home city but if he has a Karmic connection, it has to be Chennai. Fans were waiting for their idol. No matter what, Dhoni makes people laugh, and cry, and gives them a high. They do not need LSD, they need MSD. It was a brief Dhoni stint in the last over against the Lucknow franchise led by KL Rahul. Yet, Dhoni came out smoking. He faced three balls and hammered two sixes, both in different styles.
If a part-time cricketer wakes up for a few months before and during the IPL, you can well imagine what he did at his peak, for CSK as well as Team India. There are many number of stats that Dhoni and CSK are a part of. When he crossed the 5,000-run milestone in the IPL on Monday, it was time for a jig in the stands at the Chepauk. Fans have been waiting to romance in real at the brand-new stadium for so long. It’s like a date that gets postponed and leaves one in tears.
Was it a cameo or was it a knock that was inflammable in spirit, fans got their money’s worth as Dhoni took on Mark Wood, the speedster. Synonymous with the Helicopter shot, Dhoni’s two sixes were enough to show why his love affair with this southern metropolis will continue. Both (the sixes) were in different directions and different parts of the ground.
It is this maximum effort that the CSK skipper puts in that matters. There have been a few guys before him who scored 5,000 runs in the IPL. It includes Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, and AB de Villiers. The beauty is, Dhoni plays just a few months a year. What a way he does his part-time job!
