India batter Shubman Gill slammed his century during the 2023 Asia Cup match against Bangladesh on Friday (September 15) at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. It was his fourth ODI ton this year and it came after a series of not-so-impressive performances from him. In total, Gill scored his fifth ODI century.
His century came at a time when India lost wickets at regular intervals which mounted the pressure on him. He shouldered the responsibility to take India past the target but unfortunately, couldn’t anchor the innings.
Bangladesh bowler Mehidy Hasan gave the breakthrough by dismissing Gill with the help of a catch by Towhid Hridoy. The 25-year-old scored 121 runs from 133 balls with eight boundaries and five sixes.
Even if India lose this match, it won’t affect them at all as they have already secured themselves a berth in the final. But winning this match would mean India will continue their winning streak in this year’s continental tournament as they are yet to taste a defeat.

Fans laud Shubman Gill for another century in 2023
Earlier this year, Shubman Gill enjoyed a purple patch as he started scoring centuries in several matches he played. Even in the Indian Premier League (IPL) the Gujarat Titans (GT), scored the most runs in the season.
However, right after IPL, he suffered a slump in form as he failed to consistently play decent knocks. This century he invited praises from the Indian cricket fans. With this century, Gill became the first batter to score 1000 runs in 2023.
