Yashasvi Jaiswal needs to do more, it seems, to get the Player of the Match award. For the second time, despite scoring his double century, he couldn’t win the POTM award, all due to Ravindra Jadeja. India won the second Test by 434 runs on Sunday (February 18) at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.

Jaiswal took just 236 balls to score an unbeaten 214 runs, with 14 fours and 12 sixes. It was his second as well as back-to-back Test double century. He also broke records for most sixes in a Test series as an Indian and most sixes in an innings in a Test match.

But despite his knock, it was Jadeja who received the Player of the Match award. During India’s first innings, the all-rounder scored 112 runs from 225 balls.

Jadeja then dismissed two English batters for 51 runs in 10 overs during England’s first innings. And thanks to his fifer, India did not have to wait for another day to bundle out Ben Stokes and Co.

As England had to chase a tough target with a day left to try their luck, Ravindra Jadeja did not let it happen. He ran through England’s batting lineup to quickly wrap the match in India’s favor. Jadeja conceded 41 runs in his 12.4 overs. Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Foakes, and Mark Wood became Jadeja’s victims.

But netizens on X are saying that though they have no problem with Jadeja receiving the award, they feel a bit sad that youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal didn’t get it despite his double-century knock. Jasprit Bumrah won the POTM award in the second Test.
