When the ICC announced the revival of the Champions Trophy, many people were left excited. Most countries knew how important the competition was and waited for more information to come. When it was announced that it was going to be held in Pakistan, many people doubted if it would actually be held due to security concerns. But the PCB have confirmed that they have signed the hosting rights.
In a statement released by the PCB, they confirmed that Chairman Zaka Ashraf flew to Dubai to sign the rights. He was joined by ICC General Counsel, Jonathan Hall, where he signed the rights.
The statement also added that the PCB was going to work on the security of players, with the board already having talks with the government. Acting Prime Minister, Anwar-ul-haq Kakar has already spoken with Ashraf regarding the security of players.
Will the 2025 Champions Trophy follow the hybrid model?
The 2023 Asia Cup was supposed to be held in Pakistan, but due to security concerns from India’s side, it was held in a hybrid model. The tournament was hosted in both Pakistan and Sri Lanka, but most of the games were held in Sri Lanka.
Now as the 2025 Champions Trophy inches closer, many people are still not sure if the entire competition is going to be held in Pakistan. Anurag Thakur, the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, said the government had to look into all factors to see if it was safe to send the Indian team.
Many reports have suggested that the PCB will host the tournament in the UAE or let another country share the hosting rights, once again following the hybrid model. There is still 18 months left for the competition to start, so only time will tell the final outcome.
