‘Pakistan didn’t deserve to play in T20 World Cup 2022 final’ – Mohammad Amir

Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir feels that his country didn’t deserve to play in the final of the T20 World Cup 2022. His vocal statement came following Pakistan’s defeat at the hands of England in the final on Sunday (November 13). He said that God helped them reach there and the loss was unavoidable.

“The fact that we played in the final is a big thing. We didn’t deserve to play in the final. The whole world knows how we advanced to the final. Allah helped us reach there. You will get to know the results if you look at the performance of our batters. Once we got out of Sydney, it was given that this would happen,” Amir was quoted as saying to 24 News.

Amir was assured that Pakistan’s batters would struggle on the bowling surface. “I told you earlier that if the pitch at MCG is the same as it was in the first match, Pakistan will struggle and we did. After winning the toss, we got off to a good start and we knew how the conditions were,” he added.

The 30-year-old also expressed his disappointment at young Mahammad Haris for racing down the tract on the very first delivery off Adil Rashid. Amir believes he should have shown maturity and tried to bat longer as the new batters would struggle in the middle.

“We talked about Haris and his intent. But along with intent, you also need to have sense. On the first ball, he faced off Adil Rashid, he tried to come down the track. On these pitches, you can’t leave it to someone else. The new batter will struggle. Ben Stokes showed that experience and game-awareness,” Amir stated.

England won the battle by 5 wickets to seal their second T20 World Cup title in history. Pakistan, on the other hand, have a lot of positives to take away from the showpiece event. The Men in Green will next lock horns against the same opponents but for a three-match Test series, starting on December 1.
