Ravi Shastri, Virat Kohli
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri believes that although it’s quite difficult for a batsman to cross 900, an opening batsman like Gujarat Titans’ Shubman Gill can break Virat Kohli’s record of the most runs scored in a single season if possible. Kohli scored 973 runs in the 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL).

“He has to be an opening batsman because only then will he get many opportunities to score runs. I feel it is Shubman Gill because he is in good form and also because he plays top of the order. So he will get a good number of opportunities to score runs,” the 1983 World Cup winner said.
Gill was an integral part of the Gujarat Titans last year and played a crucial role in helping the team win the title in their maiden appearance. He will be next seen in action when Gujarat will face Punjab Kings on Thursday (April 13).
Virat Kohli won the Orange Cap in 2016 for his 973 runs

Though Virat Kohli has always been impressive in the cash-rich league, the 2016 season was a different one, for the talismanic batsman amassed 973 runs in that season from 16 matches. His knocks also helped RCB reach the final of the IPL but their dream to lift their maiden cup was shattered by David Warner-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
That year, he batted at a strike rate of 152.03, with the highest being a 113-run knock. He also plundered four centuries and seven half-centuries.
The 34-year-old will now be seen in action today (on Monday, April 10) against KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants. In the previous matches, Kohli scored 21, and an unbeaten 82 runs.
