Sunil Gavaskar was criticised on social media for his comments of RR batsman Shimron Hetmyer last night.

Former India batsman, Sunil Gavaskar came under scrutiny of fans after his comments last night during Rajasthan Royals’ game against the Chennai Super Kings. Shimron Heymyer who recently become a father had returned for Rajasthan’s final game of the league stage after he left the bio bubble to witness the birth of his first child.

Rajasthan was struggling at 112/5 when he come on chasing a target of 151 to which Gavaskar commentated, “Hetmyer’s wife delivered, will Hetmyer deliver for the Royals now?” Rajasthan eventually went on to win the match thanks to a super batting display by R Ashwin, but Gavaskar’s comment was not taken light heartedly by the fans.

Fans were not happy with Sunil Gavaskar’s comments as they started trolling the World Cup winner instantly. Many even called for Sunil Gavaskar to be removed from commentary for the remaining IPL.

Shimron Hetmyer has been one of the best finishers of IPL this season. With an average of just over 72 and a strike rate of 214 in overs 16-20, Hetmyer has been the rock at the middle order finishing games and helping Rajasthan put up huge totals. He has also been not out in 6 of the 12 games he played this season.

Rajasthan have qualified for the play-offs and their win last night puts them 2nd on the points table. Hence, the RRs next okay Gujrat Titans in the first qualifier of IPL 2022.
