Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has been rushed to the hospital after a heart scare during lunchtime on Day 3 of the Test between Australia and West Indies at Perth on Friday (December 2). According to several Australian media reports, Ponting was commentating for Channel 7.

Ricky Ponting is unwell and will not be providing commentary for the remainder of today’s coverage,” a Seven spokesperson said, according to the SMH report. He was feeling unwell on Day 3 and went to the hospital to check on his heart. It’s not yet known if Ponting will return to commentate on Saturday, or the remainder of the Test,” the spokesperson added.

Australia legend Shane Warne passed away in September 2022 due to a heart attack. Another Aussie gem, Rod Marsh also died in March due to a heart attack.

Former Western Australia wicketkeeper and Netherlands coach Ryan Campbell too also experienced a heart scare due to which he almost died in April this year, while former Australia batter Dean Jones perished due to a heart attack in September 2020. As far as heart health is concerned, the Australian cricket fraternity has been suffering for the last couple of years.

Meanwhile, Ricky Ponting has played 168 Test matches and amassed 13,378 runs at an average of 51.85. He has 41 centuries and 62 half-centuries.

He has played 375 ODIs and scored 13,704 runs, has 30 tons, and 82 half-centuries at an average of 42.03. In T20Is, he played 17 matches, accumulated 401 runs; has two half-centuries.

He also led the team to two ODI World Cup titles- in 2003 and 2007. He was part of the team that won the coveted cup in 1999 also.
