Just four days after the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup, India played the first T20I against Australia in Vizag. After choosing to bowl first, India received a massive 209-run target following a century from Josh Inglis (110 off 50) and Steve Smith‘s fifty (52 off 41).
India’s Suryakumar Yadav, who had a below-par campaign in the World Cup, scored a match-winning 42-ball 80 runs. Ishan Kishan also scored a half-century (58 off 39). This helped the team control the momentum during their run-chase.
Rinku Singh got the responsibility to finish the job. From 14 balls, he scored an unbeaten 22 runs and hit a six off a no-ball which unfortunately was not counted. Though six was not counted it showed that he has the ability to hit those maximums in a high-pressure situation. On Friday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video of Singh revealing former India skipper MS Dhoni‘s advice for smashing sixes in the last over.
I had once asked Mahi bhai, 'What is your mindset while batting in the last over?' He said, 'Try to remain as calm as possible and try to hit as straight as possible.' I just follow that and it has helped me a lot.Singh said in a video posted by BCCI.
He then revealed that he had no idea that the six off Sean Abbott in the last over was not counted because the latter had overstepped in the previous delivery.
Dinesh Karthik reveals interesting story behind Abhishek Nayar and Rinku Singh’s embrace
After India chased down the total to beat the Aussies, Rinku Singh gave a warm hug to Abhishek Nayar. Dinesh Karthik, who was the commentator during the match, revealed an interesting story behind that embrace.
Karthik said when he used to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the Indian Premier League (IPL), Nayar saw the potential in Singh and kept telling him that Singh would do something special. Karthik said Nayar worked a lot with Singh and even bettered his death-hitting skills.
