On the early morning of 30th December, Rishabh Pant was involved in a near-fatal car crash on the Delhi-Dehradun Highway. He was traveling back home to surprise his mother on New Years eve, but apparently fell asleep while driving. He lost control of the car and it skidded for 200 meters before hitting the central divider. The car caught fire, but he was rescued by a bus driver and a bus conductor

He suffered injuries to his head, knee, back, and feet, which caused him to stop playing cricket for quite a while. He had to undergo numerous surgeries on his knee, ankle and plastic surgery for his face injuries.

Over a year after his injury, he has opened up about the accident on Star Sports. Pant revealed he believed his time in the world was done but thought someone saved him from a worse fate. He also added that he was grateful for a 2nd chance.

First time in my life, I felt like my time in this world is up. During the accident, I was aware of the wounds, but I was lucky as it could have been even more serious. I was feeling that someone saved me. Not everyone receives a 2nd life.
