SRH has won the toss and decided to bowl first. Then openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway smashed SRH bowlers for fun. Ruturaj Gaikwad just fell short of a single run to complete his century. He smashed 6 fours and 6 sixes and scored 99 in 57 balls. But a ball from T. Natarajan sent him back to the pavilion.

Gaikwad broke several records during his majestic stay-in with Conway. He broke legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 1000 runs in 31 IPL innings. After smashing a six on the first ball off Marco Jansen, Gaikwad reached this mark.

The duo of Gaikwad had failed as opening batsmen in their previous attempts, shattered several records with a mammoth 182-run partnership with Conway.

The partnership ended up being the fourth highest opening stand in IPL history. Their partnership was the highest one in the history of Chennai Super Kings. They broke the record of Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson. The veteran duo had a 181-run stand in 2020 for the first wicket.

In this match, MS Dhoni returned as CSK’s captain after Ravindra Jadeja relinquished from the position. Jadeja reasoned that he wanted to focus on his game and MS Dhoni accepted the position.
