The incident of Deepti Sharma’s Mankading Charlie Dean during third ODI between India and England at Lord’s is making the entire cricket fraternity debate over her action. Notwithstanding Mankading being given legal dismissal on the rule book, there are many, even cricketers, who consider the dismissal disrespectful to the sport and that it ruins the “spirit of cricket”. Spirit of cricket is the phrase Twitterverse is fighting over.

Mankading is a rather most controversial rule in cricket. Whenever the incident happens, the cricket fraternity is always eager to share opinions how this and how this isn’t a disrespect to the gentlemen’s game.

Some agrees that a bowler should warn the batter at the non-striker’s end before dismissing him; counter-argument is that should a wicket-keeper also needs to warn the batter before stumping or should the fielder warn the batter before taking the catch and so on. That’s what is happening on Twitter now.

Following the incident, England Men’s batter Sam Billings was among those who didn’t like the dismissal. He took to Twitter and blamed Deepti’s run-out. Billings asked England pacer James Anderson how many wickets he can get if he dismisses batters with Mankading.

Imagine how many more wickets you could get James,” wrote Billings.

India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin replied that it’s indeed a great idea and Deepti should be given a bravery award for her presence of mind under immense pressure while knowing the social stigma she will be facing post her act.

In fact that’s a great idea. How about awarding that wicket to the bowler for “presence of mind” under immense pressure and of course knowing the social stigma that he/she would have to deal with post doing it. How about a bravery award to go with it too @ICC?”
