Pakistan faced a massive blow when their pace sensation Shaheen Afridi was ruled out of Asia Cup because of a knee injury. Afridi played a huge rule for the Men in Green in defeating India at the ICC World T20 in 2021. Babar Azam-led Pakistan defeated Virat Kohli’s India by 10 wickets in the opening game.

When the announcement was made about Afridi’s missing the major event, which will start from August 27 with the opening match played between these two arch-rivals, India and Pakistan, cricket fraternity expressed various reactions. One of them is former Pakistan great Waqar Younis. Younis took to his official Twitter handle and took a dig at India by saying that Afridi’s injury has been a big relief for the Indian top-order batsmen, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul.

“”Shaheen’s injury Big relief for the Indian top order batsmen. Sad we won’t be seeing him in #AsiaCup2022 Get firt soon Champ @iShaheenAfridi,” wrote Younis on Twitter.

Pakistan’s cricket fans and experts have started the discussion over who could replace Afridi. Afridi had dismissed Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul in similar fashion in his opening spell. According to the Pakistan fans, Indian top-order batsmen might face the similar departure because India’s top right-handed batsmen have problems in facing left-arm swing bowling.

Afridi has suffered a right knee ligament injury during the 1st Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle Stadium last month and since then, he didn’t play any games. The 22-year-old is currently with the national side in the Netherlands as part of the rehabilitation programme. He has been advised to take rest for at least 4-6 weeks after the scans and reports.
