The Asian Games will start next month and the main players from India won’t take part in it due to the upcoming ODI World Cup, starting October 5 this year in India. However, a different team will be going to Hangzhou, China with Ruturaj Gaikwad as a captain. Shikhar Dhawan, who has led the second team a couple of times, has not been considered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the Asian Games.

Not finding his name on the squad list, Dhawan felt disappointed at first. But after contemplating the reason behind his snub, Dhawan accepted it and remained in a happy state of mind.

When my name was not there, I was a bit shocked. But, then, I was like they have a different thought process, you just have to accept it,” Dhawan told the PTI. He then added that he is happy Gaikwad will lead the side.

Shikhar Dhawan has not yet given up hopes for India comeback

But Shikhar Dhawan is still hopeful that one day he will again don the India jersey which is why he has kept himself fit. He has not played an ODI match since last December.

I will be ready, of course. That is why I keep myself fit. There is always a chance whether it is 1% or 20%,” he said in that same interaction with PTI. He added that he still enjoys training and doing the kinds of stuff that are in his control.

His goal now is to lead Punjab Kings (PBKS) to a title in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and he is eager to do it in the next year. In 2022, PBKS again had a not-so-impressive performance in the IPL. They could win just six games out of 14 games and collected just 12 points.
