Cricket ground in Leicester named after Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar had scored 10,122 runs in 125 Tests for India with 34 hundreds at an average of 51.12. He is also the first batsman ever to reach the milestone of 10,000 runs.
Earlier this month, a cricket ground in Leicester, in England, was named after Gavaskar. As per media reports, Keith Vaz, UK’s longest standing Parliamentarian of Indian origin suggested the name of Gavaskar. Gavaskar himself was present to inaugurate a plaque installed in his honour.
“Blesses to have a ground in Leicester named after me. This is a recognition not for me but for all those who played with me from tennis ball days to the internationls, my family and last but not least, my fans and well wishers. Thank you all for being part of this unforgettable journey,” wrote Gavaskar on his Instagram post.
