“Third umpire ambani hi hai kya,” Fans left in shock as third umpire adjudges batter out on a clear no-ball in MI vs RR match
This was not the first such instance where the third umpire made a controversial decision.
Whenever Mumbai Indians (MI) play, controversies are bound to happen and the 42nd match in IPL 2023 was no different. As Rohit Sharma-led MI hosted Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday evening, a few events left fans shocked. The umpiring was in question throughout the RR innings. What started within-field umpires raising their fingers on every MI appeal, ended with the third umpire adjudging Yashaswi Jaiswal out on a clear no-ball.
In the final over of the RR innings, as Jaiswal hit two consecutive boundaries on the first two balls against Ashad Khan, the bowler tried to overdo his length and ended up feeding a high full toss. Jaiswal, meanwhile, tried to send it out of the stadium but ended up slicing it straight up in the air. Khan quickly ran and pouched the catch.
But with the full toss being too high, the on-field umpires sought help from the third umpire in deciding if it was a fair delivery or not. The TV umpire asked for replays and by the likes of it, the ball seemed to be illegitimate. However, for some reason, the TV umpire thought it was a fair delivery and Jaiswal was adjudged out.
This strange decision was bound to attract a few reactions and it did. Fans were left in disbelief at this level of umpiring as they called out the TV umpire.

Not first such instance!
This was not the first such instance where the third umpire made a controversial decision. In fact, the umpiring has been nothing less than sub-par in IPL 2023. While the no-ball calls have been hard to make with ball tracking, TV umpires have not used the technology at their disposal completely. For example, in match 41, between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS, the TV umpire did not ask for a zoomed-in angle while deciding on a boundary touch call.
