Virat Kohli and Babar Azam are the two stalwarts of cricket and the cricket fraternity won’t stop comparing their stats to form opinions about who is the best cricketer. Surprisingly, a 19-year-old batting-all-rounder from France, Gustav McKeon, has been breaking world records in T20Is, and on Wednesday (July 12), he surpassed Virat Kohli and Babar Azam’s massive T20I record.

Both Kohli and Babar have crossed the 500-run mark off 10 back-to-back T20I innings. While Kohli scored 542 runs in 10 consecutive matches, the likes of Babar and his opening partner Mohammad Rizwan also crossed 500. Babar used to stand atop with 565 runs, while Rizwan scored 560 runs.

But this French batter, McKeon, when he smashed 44 runs off 25 balls against Malta in Valletta Cup, he ended up collecting 600-plus runs off 10 consecutive T20I innings. McKeon also broke Aussie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell‘s record, who had scored 528 runs.

Another interesting fact about Gustav McKeon is that he made his debut only last year. During his maiden international match against the Czech Republic in July 2022, he scored 76 runs off 54 balls.

He even smashed two consecutive hundreds last year- first against Switzerland (109) and then against Norway (101) in the month of July. These two-century knocks came off his second and third innings in T20I cricket.

This made him only the second batter after South Africa’s Rilee Rossou to achieve the feat in international cricket. McKeon has also joined T20I greats like Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum by smashing four consecutive half-centuries. He is also the youngest batter to score a T20I century when he smashed the ton against Switzerland at the age of 18 years and 280 days.
