Three South Africa batters had gone on golden duck and one on duck. This is because Indian bowlers broke South Africa’s back and one by one, the batters too a long walk back to the pavillion. The two teams are locking horns right now (Wednesday, September 28) at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. Deepak Chahar first dismissed South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma on duck in the very first over. In the second over, the young Arshdeep Singh scalped two back to back wickets. He first dismissed Quinton de Kock on one run in the second ball, then sent back Rilee Rossouw on golden duck on the fifth ball, and on the next delivery, the dangerous David Miller walked back on golden duck.
South Africa scored 106/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Keshav Maharaj played a knock of 41 runs off 35 balls with five fours and two sixes, the most for his team. Aiden Markram and Wayne Parnell scored 25 and 25 runs respectively.
Apart from Ravichandran Ashwin, every bowler scalped a wicket. But Ashwin had the best economy of 2.00 as he gave only eight runs in his four overs with a maiden over. Deepak Chahar conceded 24 runs in his fours overs and scalped two wickets at an economy of 6.
Arshdeep picked up three wickets in his four overs and gave away 32 runs at an economy of 8. The two Patels, Axar and Harshal claimed one and two wickets respectively. Axar conceded 16 runs in his full overs, while Harshal conceded 26 runs at an economy of 6.5.
