Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are playing their first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. LSG posted 193/6 in their 20 overs after a great knock from Kyle Mayers and a quickfire in the death overs by Ayush Badoni on Saturday (April 1) at the Ekana Sports City in Lucknow.
DC captain David Warner won the toss and opted to bowl first. One of LSG’s openers produced a flop show. It’s KL Rahul again, who was struggling to score runs in international matches, and though it was expected of him to score heaps of runs in IPL, in the opener, it did not happen. He departed after scoring eight runs from 12 balls.
The other opener, Kyle Mayers, shouldered the responsibility of LSG’s batting. He smashed LSG’s first half-century this season and ended up scoring 73 runs from 38 balls, with two boundaries and seven maximums at an incredible strike rate of 192.11. Axar Patel got rid of this big fish with a short ball, which the West Indies star attempted to cut, but the ball went past him to crash into the stumps.

Before Kyle Mayers, Kuldeep Yadav sent Deepak Hooda into packing in the 11th over. Hooda tried to play a lofted drive off a full delivery but the ball traveled straight toward David Warner who grabbed a fine catch.
Marcus Stoinis failed with his bat, scoring just 12 runs from 10 balls, while Nicholas Pooran tried to finish the innings but got trapped by Khaleel Ahmed’s yorker in the penultimate over. LSG were downed to 165/5 and though they had a great start courtesy of Mayers, in the middle overs, they faltered after Mayers’ wicket. When crossing the 200-run mark looked possible when Mayers’ was at the crease, his departure made it look that LSG couldn’t even reach 180.
But Ayush Badoni handled the finishing role perfectly. He batted at a strike rate of 257.14 in the death overs, and slammed a four and two sixes, scoring 18 runs from seven balls, before Chetan Sakariya’s slower length ball got rid of him. Badoni exited the field after doing the damage because LSG posted a huge total of 193/6. When Badoni got out, Krishnappa Gowtham came in as his replacement with the Impact Player rule and he smashed a six off the last ball of LSG’s innings.Among the bowlers, Khaleel Ahmed and Chetan Sakariya grabbed two wickets each, while Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav got one each.
