In the third and final ODI, Indian batters displayed a not-so-impressive performance against New Zealand and could only set a small target of 220 on Wednesday (November 30) at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Adam Milne was the reason behind breaking India’s back with his three scalps, while only Washington Sundar and Shreyas Iyer scored the most for India with their resilient knocks of 51 runs and 49 runs, respectively.

The Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to field first. Indian openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill started well and stitched a 39-run stand for the first wicket till the latter became Milne’s first victim in the ninth over. Gill scored 13 runs from 22 balls with two fours.

Dhawan was the next to lose his wicket off Milne’s delivery in the 13th over. The Indian skipper scored 28 runs from 45 balls with three fours and a six before Milne’s fuller delivery hit the inside edge of his bat after which the ball went on to rattle the stumps.

Rishabh Pant once again had a short stay on the crease. He played 16 balls to score 10 runs with two fours when he pulled Daryl Mitchell’s ball toward the mid-wicket region where Glenn Phillips pouched it safely.

Suryakumar Yadav was the last victim of Milne in the 25th over. He outside-edged the full ball which traveled toward the slip region where Tim Southee grabbed it.

Shreyas Iyer, who scored 80 runs in the first ODI, was the highest-scorer with his 49-run knock from 59 balls, studded with eight boundaries. In the 26th over, Lockie Ferguson delivered a full ball which Iyer attempted to loft but mistimed completely. The ball skyed before falling into the hands of Devon Conway at covers; following Iyer’s dismissal, the Kiwis sent half of the Indian batters to the dugout.

India lost their sixth wicket when Tim Southee dismissed Deepak Hooda (12 runs off 25 balls) in the 34th over, while in the 37th over, Daryl dismissed Deepak Chahar (12 runs off nine balls). After that, Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar tried to play carefully when Williamson brought the spin attack in the 43rd over, and in the 45th, Mitchell Santner did the job by dismissing Chahal.

The Kiwis needed only Sundar’s wicket to bowl out India that they did when Southee dismissed him. Sundar first completed his maiden half-century and his knock of 51 runs off 64 balls (with five fours and a six) helped India reach 219/10 in 47.3 overs. Milne and Daryl scalped three wickets each, while Southee picked up two, and Ferguson and Santer grabbed one each.

Twitteratis are unhappy once again with the management team for giving several chances to Rishabh Pant despite his constant failure in white-ball cricket and not to Sanju Samson. The fans also praised Adam Milne’s bowling as he returned to the Kiwi side in style with his three scalps.
