Australia paceman Mitchell Starc with the new ball is dangerous. He wreaked havoc during the second ODI against India on Sunday (March 19) at the YS Raja Reddy Cricket Stadium in Vishakhapatnam.

Australia’s stand-in skipper Steve Smith won the toss and decided to field first. From the very first over, Starc was in full swing. He fully used the condition to bundle out the host for a meager total.

He drew the first blood by getting rid of Shubman Gill on the third ball of the first over and a couple of overs later, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and KL Rahul ended up heading toward the dressing room, because of Starc. Then he wrapped up India’s innings by dismissing the last batter Mohammed Siraj. Strac finished with the figures of 53/5 in eight overs, including one maiden over. This was his ninth five-wicket haul in the 50-over format.

Virat Kohli scored the most for India with his slow 31 off 35 balls, before he left the field off lbw from Nathan Ellis. Axar Patel was the next high-scorer with an unbeaten 29 off 29 balls. All India could score was a mere total of 117 in 27 overs.

Though Starc ran through the top order, other bowlers, Sean Abbott, and Nathan Ellis also gave no chance to the Indians to settle down. Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja tried to stabilize the ship but all in vain as their 22-run stand was disturbed by Ellis by trapping Kohli.

It was certainly a battle between the Indian batting guns and Starc’s inswinging deliveries. Now it will be up to the Indian pacers if they can execute the same as Starc with the seaming and swinging ball. But with the target of a mere 118, the match in all possibilities will go in Australia’s favor. India have won the first ODI.
