India women team were playing their third group stage match in the Commonwealth Games 2022 against Barbados on Wednesday, August 4 at Edgbaston, Birmingham in UK. India defeated Barbados by 100 runs with the help of Renuka Singh’s four-wicket haul. With this win, India reached the semifinals.
Barbados had won the toss and opted to bowl first. India, with the help of Jeminah Rodrigues and Shefali Verma and a cameo from Deepti Sharma set a decent target of 163 for Barbados.
Verma scored a 26-ball 43 runs with seven fours at an impressive strike rate of 165.38 and a six while Rodrigues smashed an unbeaten 56 runs off 46 balls with six boundaries and a six. Later, Deepti Sharma hit two fours and a six to score a 28-ball 34 runs to take India to 162/4.
When Barbados walked out to bat, Renuka Singh kept sending them back. She striked earlier by bowling out Deandra Dottin. She then sent back Hayley Matthews and Kycia Knight.
No Windies batter could even reach 20 run-mark. Knight was the high scorer for Barbados with her 16 runs off 20 balls. At the end, Barbados could score only 62 runs by losing eight wickets in their alloted 20 overs. Meghna Singh, Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav, and Harmanpreet Kaur picked up one wicket each while Renuka Singh scalped four wickets. Renuka conceded only 10 runs in her four overs.
