India are locking horns with Bangladesh in the first Test of the two-match Test series. Former India skipper Virat Kohli is playing his first Test since July 2022 (against England). But his inning against Bangladesh was short-lived and soon he departed scoring just one run on Wednesday (December 14) at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

India lost two quick wickets before Kohli. When he entered after KL Rahul’s departure, he started defending the balls to take time to set. But Taijul Islam, who dismissed Shubman Gill in the 14th over, disappointed Kohli. His short ball, which Kohli tried to defend, turned away sharply to his surprise, and hit his back leg.

Before Kohli, Rahul and Gill opened India’s innings stitching 41 runs before the latter lost his wicket to Taijul. Rahul got dismissed just an over before Kohli’s lbw. Rahul scored 22 runs, while Gill scored 20.

After the top three were sent to the dugout, Rishabh Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara entered the crease. Pujara has played 32 balls and scored 12 runs. It’s Pant again whose quick start from the word provided some respite for India, taking the score to 85/3 by lunch.

Pant has played 26 balls and scored 29*. India will want a longer partnership between Pant and Pujara now. Among the bowlers, Taijul got two, while Khaled Ahmed scalped one wicket.

Also, regular skipper Rohit Sharma isn’t playing after sustaining an injury in his left thumb. Rahul is the skipper, while Cheteshwar Pujara is his deputy.

The two teams are squaring off after a three-match ODI series. Bangladesh’s impressive performance in the first two matches outclassed the Indians, but Ishan Kishan‘s double century and Kohli’s century in the third ODI saved them from a clean sweep.
