“Don’t be fake by tweeting blah blah”- Twitter slams Virender Sehwag after he wrongly congratulated Hima Das for winning gold at CWG 2022

Virender Sehwag

On Saturday, former India opener Virender Sehwag wrongly congratulated Hima Das for winning gold in 400m race at Commonwealth Games 2022. Fans trolled him because he tweeted that long before the start of the athletic events. Distinguishing facts from fiction is tricky sometimes on social media and Sehwag learned that yesterday.

“What a win! Indian athletes have totally arrived. Many congratulations to Hima Das on winning gold in the 400m at the Commonwealth Games. Fakr Hai,” wrote Sehwag on his Twitter.

A video had gone viral on social media which was about Das winning the 400m at the U-20 athletics World Championships at Tempere, Finland in 2018. She also became the first Indian to win that title. The video, which is shared by an user names Pegasus had gone viral on WhatsApp groups. Watch the video below:

“Well done #SanketSargar for winning India it’s first medal at the Commonwealth Games, brilliant effort. Proud of you Silver #CWG,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old Sanket, from the state of Maharashtra, opened India’s tally in Birmingham with a silver medal. He was congratulated by PM Narendra Modi and Sanket also dedicated his medal to India’s 75th year of Independence.

Track and field competitions are scheduled to take place at the Alexander Stadium on Tuesday. And Das will only compete in the 200m.

The 22-year-old Das’s last appearance in 400m was in 2019. She now has moved to 100m and 200m and also competes in the 400*100m relay. Her last appearance was in the inter-state meet in Chennai where she won gold in the 100m and also won the 4*100m relay.
