“Mi and csk fans can cry now”- Twitteratis celebrate as RCB is among the top 5 popular sports clubs on Instagram
Despite being one of the most popular sporting clubs in the world, RCB is still waiting for its first trophy.
RCB is among the top 5 popular sports clubs on Instagram
The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore‘s (RCB) Instagram account received a whopping 948 million interactions. It is the only Indian and cricketing club in the football-dominated list.
The franchise is in the top five of the popular sports club; the list is topped by La Liga giants Real Madrid with 2.09 billion interactions, followed by Barcelona with 1.78 billion reactions. The Premier League club Manchester United is third with 1.41 billion reactions, while Paris Saint German is ranked fourth with 1.07 reactions.
The majority of RCB’s fan following is due to players like Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers, and of course, the poster boy Virat Kohli who used to lead the team, but relinquished captaincy after IPL 2021. He played for RCB since IPL’s inception in 2008. Gayle and de Villiers no longer play for this team right now.

RCB is yet to win a cup in IPL
Kohli is also one of the most followed sportspersons on Instagram, having around 234 million followers on the Meta-owned platform. The 2016 season was his best because he amassed a mind-blowing 973 runs in 16 matches, including four centuries. The score of 973 is the highest in a single season in the history of the tournament.
After Kohli left the leadership role, South Africa’ Faf du Plessis was handed the reigns in the 2022 season, and under him, RCB somehow reached the playoffs but couldn’t proceed further in the 2022 season.
Despite being one of the most popular sporting clubs in the world, RCB is still waiting for its first trophy. The team has played 15 playoffs, and made three final appearances but failed to win the cup. In 2009, they lost to Deccan Chargers, in 2011 to the Chennai Super Kings, and in 2016 to the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
That is why fans rejoiced after seeing RCB’s name on the list, but at the same time, they didn’t miss the chance to make fun of the team for its trophy-less seasons.
