Yuvraj Singh retired from cricket in 2019, ending his illustrious 23-year career. The all-rounder had won the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup with India, being one of the team’s most crucial players. He had played through the 2011 CWC with lung cancer as well, but after returning to cricket after beating the illness there was a drop in form.

After retiring, he hasn’t been much involved in the world of cricket apart from playing in some T20 leagues such as the Global T20 Canada and Abu Dhabi T10 league. He recently revealed that he wanted to go back into cricket, but in a coaching role.

In an interview, he revealed he wanted to give back to cricket by mentoring younger players, saying he had already mentored young Punjabi stars like Shubman Gill and Prabhsimran Singh. He revealed that he asked former India teammate, Ashish Nehra, for a job in Gujarat Titans, but was refused.

I asked Mr Ashish Nehra for a job, but he declined it. So, let's see where else I can get a position, but at the moment, I have to balance.

Singh said he will start looking for coaching roles once his children start going to school, as he would then get some free time. His involvement in Gill’s development is well known, with him helping the youngster throughout his career.

Yuvraj Singh believes Ravichandran Ashwin should stick to Test cricket

Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the best spinners in the world, with his tactical awareness being second to none. Although he struggles to play in the limited over cricket, he is one of India’s biggest assets of the Test team. And that’s why Yuvraj Singh believes Ashwin should stay. Acknowledging his skill, Singh believes Ashwin doesn’t deserve a spot in any white ball team.

Ashwin is a great bowler but I don't think he deserves a place in ODIs and T20s. He is very good with the ball, but what does he bring with the bat? Or as a fielder? In the Test team, yes, he should be there. But in white-ball cricket, I don't think he deserves a place.
Yuvraj Singh told India Today

Ashwin last featured for India in white balls during the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, where he was called up after Axar Patel was injured. Before that he had featured in only 3 ODIs in the previous 3 years. He ended up playing only one match before being benched for the rest of the tournament.
