“Sometimes puts pressure on the players,” Virender Sehwag on Ashish Nehra’s talking to GT players during match

GT vs RR
Former India opener Virender Sehwag says Gujarat Titans’ head coach Ashish Nehra‘s constant talking to the players sometimes adds pressure on them and makes them tenser. Sehwag and Nehra have shared the dressing room for many years, so the former claimed that as he knows the GT coach since childhood, the latter might have been dealing with anxiety, so his talking to players is a way for him to deal with the anxiety.
“We know Ashish Nehra from childhood and so I feel he was just dealing with anxiety by talking to the fielders on the boundary,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz after the match.
“But what it can do is sometimes put pressure on the players. He said something to [Mohammed] Shami too when he was on the boundary, and then even Shami ended up getting hit for runs in his last over,” Sehwag added.
During Gujarat’s match against Rajasthan Royals, GT got the upper hand at first when their opponents were chasing 178. However, Sanju Samson played a captain’s innings, scoring 60 runs from 32 balls and later Shimron Hetmyer finished the match in style with his unbeaten 56 runs from 26 balls. Though RR won the match by three wickets, it was also their first victory over the defending champions.
Virender Sehwag criticizes Hardik Pandya’s captaincy during GT vs RR match
Virender Sehwag believes Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya should have handed the ball to experienced bowler Mohit Sharma instead of Noor Ahmed. Mohit had conceded just seven runs in two overs. But the decision to give the ball to Ahmed backfired as Shimron Hetmyer’s six off the second ball did the job for last year’s runners-up.
“They [GT] felt he may not be able to read Rashid [Khan] and Noor Ahmed properly and would get dismissed. But how do you still not give a third over to someone who has conceded just seven runs in his first two overs,” Sehwag said.
The 44-year-old then added that the defending champions need to make a plan properly as to who will bowl in the death overs. He then pointed out that RR have broken the jinx of everyone thinking GT has the best bowling attack and that target cannot be chased against them.
