The legendary Sachin Tendulkar is an inspiration for many. The way he mixed talent with hard work to stay for 24 years is the reason why he is regarded by many as the greatest batter of all time.

Tendulkar started in 1989 in a Test match against arch-rivals Pakistan and hung up his boot in 2013, but not without scripting almost every batting record. He appeared in six World Cups, before winning his last one in 2011. He has shared the dressing room with different generations of players. And he certainly knew that to survive, he would need to push his body.

Tendulkar is the only player to have slammed 100 international centuries. The runs he has piled up throughout his career are nearly impossible for a batter to reach. He has reached the three-figure mark 51 times in Test, while in ODIs, he scored centuries 49 times. The 49-year-old was also the first batter to score a double-century in the fifty-over format.

Another batting maestro Virender Sehwag who has played the majority of his career with the Master Blaster opened up about the reason behind Tendulkar’s long career. Sehwag said that Tendulkar was always focused on how he can improve his game. He would train for hours to stay fit and used to compete with Virat Kohli, who, needless to say, is a fitness freak and has brought revolution in Indian cricket in the fitness department.

Why do you think Sachin Tendulkar was able to play for so many years? It’s because each year he kept thinking what new can I add to my batting or I can become better? If I can’t add in the batting department, I should work my fitness in such a way that I can convert 100s into 200s. When we came in the 2000s, he would concentrate on fitness more than us,” Sehwag told Ranveer Allahbadia on his show ‘Beer Biceps’ on his YouTube channel.

Later, in 2008 when Virat Kohli came in, Sachin would compete with him. He paid more attention and focus to fitness than him,” Sehwag added.

Sehwag also revealed bizarre rumors surrounding Tendulkar. He says he has never seen it but heard that Tendulkar’s house was on the 10th floor so he used to run up and down the stairs and used to do it 100 times a day. “With that kind of running, the power he was able to generate in his legs would be unbelievable,” Sehwag added.
