‘I want to see him in Indian jersey’ – Virender Sehwag on youngster Prithvi Shaw
Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has expressed his desire to see young talented batter Prithvi Shaw in Indian colors. Shaw played his last game for Team India in July 2021 against Sri Lanka. Since then, he has not been picked by management despite multiple good knocks in domestic circuit.
The 22-year-old wasn’t even picked in the limited-overs squad for the New Zealand tour despite senior players being rested. On this, Sehwag believes Shaw should have been selected for the assignment as the opener has the ability to strike around 150, which could be useful as the 2023 World Cup approaches.
“I wanted to see Prithvi Shaw in New Zealand. He is not in T20I or ODI squad. There’s a 2023 World Cup, so I think he might come back. He plays in the top order and his strike is around 150, which is suitable for the T20 format. He could have gone as an extra player,” Sehwag told CricBuzz.

What’s next for Prithvi Shaw?
Prithvi Shaw is the type of batter one might need in modern era cricket. His ability to play fearless strokes and provide a flying start to the side can be very useful. Many call him the new ‘Virender Sehwag’ as the former playing style resembles the former great Indian opener.
If we talk about his IPL numbers, Shaw has scored 1588 runs in 63 innings at a moderate average of 25.21 but at an astonishing strike-rate of 147.45. With time, one can guess that he is going to get better and better. He was led U19 team to a World Cup title in 2018.
