This is a Test where batsmen are feasting on the bowlers. At least the Australians are doing so far. On the back of knocks from Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green, Australia are looking forward to a huge first innings total. Yesterday Khawaja reached his maiden Test hundred in India, and today it was Green who shut his critics by slamming his maiden Test century, on Friday (March 10) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Since his Test debut in 2020, Green, despite reaching 70s and 80s, failed to reach a bit further to complete his century. And despite the constant criticism thrown at the 23-year-old, the management showed faith in him and included him in the squad against India (where they haven’t yet won a series since 2004).

Watch the video of Cameron Green celebrating his maiden Test century:

His 114-run knock had 18 boundaries, plus he stitched a crucial 208-run partnership with Khawaja (second-highest Test stand for Australia in India). They became the fourth Aussie pair with a 200-run stand. Ravichandran Ashwin finally gave the much-needed breakthrough when Green hit the ball a bit early, but the ball brushed against his gloves, and keeper Srikar Bharat took a sharp catch.

Every time we’ve seen him, he gets better and better,” former Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin said on Fox Cricket. “What’s been more impressive is the tempo he’s played at. He’s come and taken the game on. He hasn’t missed on opportunity to score, so his mindset’s all about looking to score, not just occupying the crease. The Indians don’t have an answer for him.”

Cameron Green achieves a special feat after his maiden century

Green missed the first two Tests due to injury. And today, with his ton, he became the only third Australian to score a century and complete a five-wicket haul before his 24th birthday. Before him, Ron Archer and Michael Clarke had achieved this special feat.

Australia have crossed the 400-run mark at the time of writing this article. If Usman Khawaja plays with the same patience, he can his double century also. Currently, he is batting on 178*. The visitors need to save their wickets too, because Ashwin, after sending Green back to the pavilion, dismissed Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc, with India needing to scalp three more to end Australia’s innings.
