Chamika Karunaratne loses four teeth in fielding accident while catching the ball in LPL match; hospitalized later
Sri Lanka bowling all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne produced a stunning effort to catch a ball but ended up losing his four teeth with a bloody mouth. The incident during the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) game between Kandy Falcons and Galle Gladiators on Wednesday, December 7 in Hambantota. He was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Galle for surgery.
In the 4th over of the first innings, Gladiators’ Nuwanidu Fernando was at the crease; he drove the ball over the cover from Carlos Braithwaite’s delivery. Fernando mistimed the shot, and it went in the air; Karunaratne ran behind from the point to catch it. The ball hit him in the face, leaving him with a bloody mouth, but he didn’t drop the catch and passed it to his teammate.

Kandy Falcons Team Director said Karunaratne is stable and will be available for the Kandy stage. Notably, Karunaratne represented the Kandy Falcons for the first time. He previously used to play for the Dambulla Giants.
Gladiators vs Falcons
Talking about the match, after winning the toss, Galle Gladiators ended up scoring just 121/8. Movin Subasingha scored the most with his 40-run knock followed by Imad Wasim’s 34. West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite‘s 4/14 in his four overs did the job for the Kandy. He also bowled a maiden over.
Kandy Falcons chased down the target comfortably and won the match by five wickets with five overs to spare. Pathum Nissanka, Andre Fletcher, and Kamindu Mendis played impactful knocks to complete the target in 15 overs.
