WATCH: Chennai Super Kings’ Shaik Rasheed pulls off one of the best catches in IPL history, fans say it’s NOT OUT
Although Shaik Rasheed pulled off one of the best catches in IPL history, the four-time champions could not defend their total as Punjab Kings won by four wickets.
The 41st match of the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) went down the wire and Shaik Rasheed has a lot to do with it. The CSK fielder who came in as a substitute arguably pulled off one of the best catches in tournament history. Rasheed was centimetres shy of the boundary cushions when he pouched Jitesh Sharma’s catch.
As the Punjab Kings batter tried to loft a slower full toss from Tushar Deshpande, he lost his shape and the ball went high up in the air, towards long-on. Meanwhile, Rasheed settled himself under the ball and comfortably caught it. However, the momentum was taking him closer to the ropes. Eventually, it all came down to Rasheed keeping his boots centimetres away from the boundary cushion.
However, quite obviously, the decision was referred to the TV umpire who looked at all possible angles before adjudging the batter out. But a section of fans felt that the fielder had touched the boundary cushions and the batter should have been not out. A few were left impressed too.

CSK lose though!
Despite Shaik Rasheed pulling off one of the best catches in IPL history, the four-time champions could not defend their total as Punjab Kings won by four wickets. With nine runs needed off the final over, Matheesha Pathirana tried his best giving away six runs on the first five deliveries. However, Sikandar Raza showed nerves of steel on the final ball to place the ball into the gap and sneak in three runs to win the game.
