Rishabh Pant finally returned to competitive cricket when he came to bat during the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The match was played in Mohali on Saturday (March 23).
Rishabh Pant, who was captaining DC, lost the toss and so PBKS asked his team to bat first. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh opened the innings and scored 39 runs between them.
After their dismissal, Pant came to bat at No. 4 and received a standing ovation from the Mohali crowd. He played a quiet knock of 18 runs from 13 balls with two boundaries. Harshal Patel‘s slower delivery in the 13th over made Pant cut the ball only to lose his wicket when Jonny Bairstow caught the ball with ease.

This match was Pant’s first one in more than a year. He last featured in a competitive cricket match back on December 22, 2022, in a Test against Bangladesh. He met with that harrowing car accident on the 30th of December that year when he was visiting his family in Roorkee to celebrate the New Year.
Rishabh Pant revealed MS Dhoni’s valuable advice
The cricket fraternity in India is impressed with Rishabh Pant’s perseverance. Those who read and heard about the spine-chilling accident Pant met up with, know how much he worked hard to get back on his feet.
And as a result of his determination, he is able to compete in high-voltage cricket matches. Ahead of DC’s first match, Pant revealed how MS Dhoni‘s words helped him handle the pressure before making his comeback.
Mahi bhai has a dialogue. 'Focus on the poor subject. It's a part of the journey.' I need to enjoy the journey as well, right? When I go to practice, I need to get a feel of the bat. When I keep wickets, I want to know how the ball feels in the gloves when I collect it. If we start enjoying these small things, the positivity increases in life.Pant said in a video posted by DC on their social media handles
DC, meanwhile, will lock horns with Rajasthan Royals in their next match, scheduled on March 28. Pant will be playing against Dhoni on March 31.
