“Two things that are non-negotiable for me are…” Sridhar on MS Dhoni
Former India fielding coach R Sridhar revealed an incident where MS Dhoni told him something and Sridhar feels that it’s an eye opener for the Indian cricket team. Apart from his composed disposition, Dhoni is known for his bold and audacious decisions.
He made Rohit Sharma open in ODIs, and even backed a young Virat Kohli who was struggling with failures in Tests. But his biggest contribution is how under him, apart from batting and bowling, fielding and fitness became the indispensable part of the team.
“MS… when he was captain, he led the fielding. And the running between the wicket was to me, an eye opener. MS said that ‘two things that are non-negotiable for me are fielding and running between the wicket’. And that is something which still holds true. And the kind of emphasis he laid on fielding, Virat took it forward. Ravi always said that the 11 best fielders will take the park. So that is the kind of importance that was laid on fielding,” Sridhar told Cricket.com.
