Kane Williamson is in scintillating form these days. During Day 2 of the ongoing second Test between Sri Lanka and New Zealand on Saturday (March 18) at the Basin Reserve in Wellington, Williamson slammed his sixth double-century in the longest format of the game. He scored his second back-to-back century against Sri Lanka in the two-match series.
In the first Test in Christchurch, courtesy of his century, the hosts won the match by two wickets and in the process cleared the path for India to reach the World Test Championship final. In that Test, Williamson played a match-winning knock of an unbeaten 121 runs from 194 balls. That match went down to the last ball, with the hosts chasing down 257 in 53 overs.
And in the second Test, when he reached 215 off 396 balls, the 32-year-old ended up equaling Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting’s records. Both Ponting and Tendulkar had scored six double centuries in red-ball cricket. On top of the list of batters with most 200 is Sir Donald Bradman with 12 centuries, followed by Kumar Sangakkara (11), Brian Lara (9), Virat Kohli, Wally Hammond, and Mahela Jayawardene (7). Looking at Williamson’s form, he can cross the 200-run mark another time to surpass Virat Kohli.

Not just this, Williamson slammed his 28th Test century, equaled Virat Kohli’s record who scored his 28th ton in the fourth Test against Australia. Williamson’s average in Test is 54.89, which is better than the likes of Kohli and Tendulkar.
Williamson also became the first batter from New Zealand to cross 8000 runs in Test cricket. After this knock, he ended up amassing 8124 runs from 164 innings in 94 Tests. He surpassed Kiwi legend Ross Taylor, who has 7683 runs from 196 innings.
Meanwhile in the ongoing match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, the latter were asked to bat first. They put on a massive 580/4d with Williamson’s double century, Henry Nicholls’ 200, and Devon Conway’s 74. Sri Lanka have started their first innings and have so far added 26 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of two wickets.
