In the match, MI had won the toss and opted to bowl first. DC lost their opening batsman, the dangerous Australian David Warner in the 3rd over. However, DC soon lost the wicket of another Australian batsman in the form of Mitchell Marsh in the 4th over.

It was Jasprit Bumrah’s first over and he bowled a length ball. The ball landed on off and moved away and Marsh pushed it harder. But it went off the outside edge low to the right of MI skipper Rohit Sharma at first slip. And Rohit Sharma rarely misses a catch. Marsh had just played his first ball but unfortunately he had to go back for a golden duck.

Former India batter Mohammad Kaif believes that Delhi Capital made a smart decision to sign-in Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh at the auction. Marsh’s base price was INR 2 crore and after some intense bidding, DC brought him for INR 6.5 crore. Kaif said:

“DC did a very good job of going after Mitchell Marsh at the auction and picking him up because he bowls as well. At DY Patil, when he won the Man of the Match (against the Rajasthan Royals), he took wickets as well apart from scoring runs. Rishabh Pant likes to have extra bowling options and Marsh’s form will help the franchise,” Kaif told Sportskeeda.

“Mitchell Marsh’s contribution in Australia’s T20 World Cup campaign must have given him a lot of confidence. Such performances give players belief. Attacking batters like Marsh get out (cheaply) sometimes. The IPL is a high-pressure tournament, but Marsh brought his form and rhythm from the T20 World Cup into the IPL and Delhi are benefiting from it,” he elaborated.
